Software Classes Begin again in August!

The MS Word & Excel classes (version 2003) begin again next week. Classes in each program are offered on alternate weeks, with classes on Tuesdays (1 - 3PM), Wednesdays (5:30 - 7:30PM), and Thursdays (10AM - 12PM). Additionally, Word classes will be held on Saturdays from 10AM - 12PM beginning on August 30th.
For each program, there will be a total of six classes, covering very basic (navigating through a document or worksheet, entering text & data) through more advanced material (creating, running, and editing macros, mail merging, advanced sorting and filtering of data). Word Beginning Level 1 classes will begin the week of August 4th - 9th.
Pre-registration with a valid Lackawanna County Public Library card is required for all classes. Please call for class availability & additional information.

Computer Tip of the Week

Working With Macros - Creating macros allows you to record multiple tasks you're continually performing in a program, so that they can be run at the click of a tool on a toolbar or a keyboard shortcut. If you're advanced enough in your software usage to be working with macros, then you should know you need to PLAN YOUR MACRO IN ADVANCE! Planning in advance by going through & writing down the steps you plan on recording allows you to troubleshoot the process ON PAPER rather than in the Visual Basic Editing window. Once you have worked out whatever problems and have only the steps you want, in the correct order, then & only then do you begin the macro recording process. Doing this makes any editing of the macro you may need to do in the future much easier. PowerPoint Tip
November 19, 2008: For those who need to create a slide show presentation but don't have hours to spend on it, use the AutoContent Wizard to do the bulk of the work for you. Just open the New Presentation Task Pane (File --> New), then click on FROM AUTOCONTENT WIZARD. Choose a pre-designed presentation that most closely matches your needs & you're done! Now, you only need to go through & replace existing text with the info YOU need to present._____________________ August 4, 2008: When Mail Merging in WORD XP, you can use name and address lists stored in Excel or Outlook; you don't have to re-create the list in Word._______________________ July 31, 2008: For you more advanced Office software users: recording a MACRO to perform repetative tasks can save you a LOT of time in the long run. However, you need to take the time to PLAN out your macro prior to beginning the recording process, as every mouse click & keyboard entry you make will be recorded.
